8. Game Analytics

Game Analytics

Game Analytics shows how players went through your game: how many started and finished, where they got stuck, which questions were hard, which conversation branches nobody took, how they moved between scenes and what they ended up owning. Use it to improve your design, or, as a teacher or facilitator, to see how a group did.

Game Analytics is about what happened. To watch and manage games that are running right now, use the Game Master Console.

Opening Game Analytics

  • From your home screen, click Analytics on the game's card, or
  • from inside a game, choose Game Analytics in the top menu.

Game Analytics is available to the game's owner, its authorised designers and Rollick administrators.

The Filter Bar

The filter bar applies to every panel:

FilterWhat it does
VersionThe game version to analyse, with its number of players. Analytics opens on the newest version that anybody played. Each version is analysed on its own, with the titles, options and correct answers of that version.
Joined betweenOnly players who started the game in this date range.
InstancesAll instances, or the ones you pick (e.g. your class's instance). Instances are named after their players.
Include abandonedOff by default: players of instances that were abandoned are left out. Terminated instances are always left out.
Include design teamOff by default: the game's owner and designers are left out of every number, so your own test runs do not distort the figures. Turn it on to see them.

The filters are part of the page's address, so you can bookmark a view or send it to a co-designer. Refresh recomputes the figures. Every panel says which version it shows, how many players it counts, when it was computed, and how many players were left out.

Privacy. Players are only named by their avatar name; no email or account appears. If the game requires consent, players who have not given it, or who withdrew it, are left out of every figure and every list, and the panels say how many.
